Community Storytelling Workshop

The Center for Applied Theatre hosts: Community Storytelling Workshop

Private Event: By invitation only

Location: Mirror Image Arts | 6001 Wolff St. Arvada Co 80003

Date: August 30th, 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

Cost: Free, workshop includes lunch (provided by the Bochatey Foundation)

This workshop will bring participants together to experience the process by which Theatre of the Oppressed practitioners' Jenny Wanasek and Mark Weinberg of the Center for Applied Theatre guide groups toward an interactive exploration of the nature and power of community and the situations that reveal both particular and systemic oppression. It introduces participants to the power of the arts in community-based work. It provides opportunities for shared learning by combining games, dialogue, storytelling, and deep listening with the visceral language of images sculpted with our bodies.

The interactive and collaborative workshop will use techniques drawn from the Theatre of the Oppressed, The Virtues Project, and other sources to provide provocative and transformative learning experiences that can raise questions, invite open dialogue, develop creativity, explore power and privilege, identify problems, and actively test solutions for real-life implementation. Together we will explore ways to build a supportive, democratic, and liberatory environment, share boundary-setting techniques, practice deep listening, and address how activist groups and communities (including in classrooms) can be generated and sustained. We'll also explore the crucial self-care needed to "stay the course."

Please register by August 18th.
